Lugano/Gazoldo degli Ippoliti – April the 3rd, 2025 – NovaMar Logistic is born; this new company under Maltese law, brings together two outstanding entrepreneurial entities: Marcegaglia, a recognized leader in the national and international steel industry, and Nova Marine Carriers, the Italo-Swiss shipping group with a fleet of over 100 owned and managed vessels. The new company has been promoted and developed by OD Shipping, a historic broker of the Marcegaglia Group. The operation was finalized yesterday afternoon with the signing by Antonio and Emma Marcegaglia, both leading the family business; Vincenzo Romeo, CEO of Nova Marine Carriers Group; and Mario Bernacca, CEO of OD Shipping.
The newly established NovaMar Logistic will take over the management of the vessel Sider Luck, a 26,300 dwt ship that will operate on European cabotage routes, connecting raw material supply ports with Marcegaglia Group’s industrial plants in Ravenna, Fos-sur-Mer, and beyond.
“By joining this new company, we are strengthening our collaboration with one of our long-standing suppliers, the Nova Marine Group, in a sector, the maritime transport, that is strategic for the competitiveness of the steel industry. Ongoing conflicts, geopolitical instability, and growing protectionism are driving the need to find creative and structured solutions aimed at safeguarding supply chains and, consequently, maintaining competitiveness” said Antonio Marcegaglia, Chairman and CEO of Marcegaglia Steel.
“NovaMar Logistic is, for the Nova Marine Group, the strategic consolidation of a decades-long partnership with the Marcegaglia Group, of which we are extremely proud. It highlights the synergy between two companies that, despite their respective growth, have maintained a strong family leadership” stated Vincenzo Romeo, CEO of Nova Marine Group.
“This is not a new project but one that has been successfully tested in the past, moving towards sustainability and efficiency. This same vessel has already been used to transport over 700,000 tons of steel, ensuring a significant reduction in environmental impact compared to smaller ships and easing road traffic congestion. It is an example of a strategic use of the ‘motorway of the sea’ in a green perspective” said Mario Bernacca, CEO of OD Shipping.
